chapter 02
Change

It was the third day I was sleeping at Andy’s place… outside his bedroom door. He didn’t like me sleeping in bed with him when he was sick; he insisted I’d catch his cold but he just didn’t get I didn’t care. It was cute, the face he made when he closed the door in my face.
I realized that Andy’s apartment was smaller than it looked at first glance: there was only a bedroom, a bathroom, a kitchen, and a small living room. He had just gotten out of college and this was the best he could afford. His parents offered him to move back into their house after he graduated but he declined, saying he was tired of being always babied and spoiled by them and that he wanted to work for everything he had. But still… not to be mean or anything, but this place wasn’t in the best of conditions… and certainly not in the best part of the city.
While I laid on the couch last night I thought about how I could help him out. I thought we could get some paint and liven the place up, get some new furniture, fix all the cracks in the wall. But the thing really was… it was too small. And then it hit me.
I walked back from the deli this morning bringing Andy and I breakfast, but that’s not all I had with me. The elevator was out of order since the day before but it didn’t matter. I happily hopped up the steps to his apartment and opened the door to see him reading a book in the kitchen. He was all better from his cold.
“Hey…” I called to him from the door, then walked in and put the bag of food on the table. I pulled out a key from my pocket and dangled it in front of his face.
“What’s that?” He put his book down and flicked the key.
“This is the key to my loft.”I smiled coyly.“You are moving in with me”
“Are you serious?” A smile slowly crept on his face as he gently took it.
“Yeah, I’m serious!” My voice rose from the excitement and I smiled back at him.
“Oh, my God! Hyung!” He jumped into my arms and kissed me sweetly.
“It’s about time I had you with me.” I laughed.
“Oh, my God! I have to tell all my friends!… which are your friends too!” His face beamed in elation as he got off me. “When am I… you know… moving in with you?”
“This Saturday. I already got the truck rented out and everything. I got Hyesung, JunJin and Dongwan to come help too.”
“Wow… you got all this planned out don’t you?” He eyed me suspiciously but still with a smile. “And all by yourself… what a big boy you are!”he said in a baby-talk voice, pinching my cheeks.
“Stop…” I softly slapped his wrists away.
“And what if I had said no?” He positioned himself up against me and tilted his head up looking directly into my eyes.
“Then I’d have wasted fifty bucks.” I pressed my forehead against his and shook my head. “And besides… you wouldn’t have,” I said confidently.
“You’re right; I wouldn’t have.” He giggled. “So… what’s Hyesung gonna be doing here?”
“I dunno.”I shrugged. “I guess we can just have him look pretty.”
“Is Minwoo-hyung coming?”
“Nope. And you know why?”
“Hyo—”
“That’s right…” I said in a sing-song voice. “‘Cause the hoochie monster’s making him take her out shopping, to the movies, and out for lunch and dinner.”
“And how do you know all this?”
I grabbed him in a headlock and gently stroked his hair. “Because, Andy, there’s a whole lot that happens out in the world while a person’s cooped up in his apartment for three days straight. JunJin gave birth to a giraffe and Dongwan actually sleeps with clothes on now”
Andy found his way out of my hold and eyed me pensively. “Does he serious—”
“No!...” I chuckled. “That’ll happen when I turn straight. No… but seriously, I went over Minwoo’s yesterday, and who else do I find but her sitting down at the kitchen table sipping wine while Minwoo’s making dinner for both of them. And then he pulls me out into the hallway and tells me he’s so busy this weekend he can’t even go to his parents’ house for their anniversary. Then he gave me a cake he made and told me to go instead of him and give it to them. That’s why I showed up with that thing of tin foil.
“Oh…” He looked at me nervously. “That was for them?”
My eyes widened. I didn’t even need to ask what happened to it. “You ate it didn’t you?”
“Oops.” He smiled innocently.
“Even though it had a card on it that said “Happy Anniversary, from Minwoo” on it?”
“I thought it was for us. We met at Dongwan’s Christmas party last year didn’t we?”
I looked at him for a moment, and then remembered. “Oh… you’re right. You’re totally right. Honest mistake, yeah. Definitely.” Andy agreed nodding his head rapidly.
“So when are you kidnapping me?”
“Saturday.”
“So that means I have…” Andy started counting with his fingers. “One… two… three days for me to pack.” He looked at me with urgency. “I need boxes.”
“I got that taken care of. Dongwan’s bringing a couple of boxes later today, and some more tomorrow.”
“Aw… I love you.” He hugged me tightly.
“I love you too.” I planted a kiss on his forehead.
An hour later, after Andy and I ate breakfast, Dongwan brought the boxes and rolls of bubble wrap I had asked for. Poor Dongwan had to make three round-trips up and down the stairs. After he had brought up the last pair of boxes from his car he waited in the doorway with his hand stretched out as if waiting to get something.
“What is it?” I asked.
“Where’s my tip?”
“Here’s your tip.” I pushed his forehead back hoping he’d tip over, but unfortunately for me he caught hold of the door frame. “Damn it.” I laughed.
“Yeah, yeah. Funny.”
He walked in shutting the door behind him. By then, Andy had already sealed up a box with clothes. The three of us stood in front of his closet which was still a lot more than half full. And to think his shoes and underwear were elsewhere.
“This is gonna be a problem.” I poked Andy’s shoulder. “I think we’re gonna need to rip your whole closet out and bring it over to the loft.”
“Uh…huh.” He nodded.
Eventually we managed to pack most of Andy’s room into five boxes, three of them filled with just clothes. We figured that this move wasn’t gonna be really big so we decided to send Dongwan home. Andy didn’t have a lot of stuff to pack, just a couple of pieces of furniture, and other things that needed to be packed away the same day he was leaving.
“So, how’s it look?” I embraced him from behind in the middle of his almost-barren bedroom.
“Naked?”
“Not yet it isn’t…” I kissed his neck and grabbed his sweater zipper, pulling it down.
“No… Ewickkk… izz cowwwld…” He tried to get away but instead fell over on top of his still-made bed with me on top of him.
“I’ll make you feel warm then…”
